The Random Wrestling Review- Podcast!

What else could the world need more in 2021, than yet another podcast featuring 3 white guys in their 30’s talking about wrestling?! Actually a lot more, but we’re hoping you’ll settle for this. Ben, Tom and Sam are 3 long-time friends who have each been watching wrestling for the last 30 years and here, each week, they will select a wrestling show from the past at random and then talk about it. It’s a heady mix of in-depth analysis, juvenile humour and everything in between.

WWE Royal Rumble 2012

It’s not very often that a Royal Rumble event comes across as not being of any real significance when you look back at it. Given what is at stake in the main event of the show each year, its status as the most commercially successful gimmick match in pro wrestling and its position in the calendar coming just a couple of months prior to Wrestlemania, the Royal Rumble usually has a major part to play in the shaping of the year ahead- whether it be for the better or worse. In 2012 however, WWE was entering the finishing straight of a 1 year build to the main event of Wrestlemania 28 between John Cena and The Rock and as a consequence, the Rumble would play little, or no part in shaping the match between the two. WWE Armageddon 2008

2015 has not been a particularly good year for Jeff Hardy who, having missed a large part of TNA’s early time on Destination America (due to his inability to gain a visa to travel to the UK), was then involved in a motorbike accident while performing a stunt in his spare time causing him to injure his leg and keeping him out of the ring since May. Reports are now suggesting that ‘The Charismatic Enigma’ may be out for the rest of next year as well as the injury requires further surgery. As the New Year arrives, Jeff Hardy finds himself in the midst of the biggest absence from the ring in his 20 year career and working for a company that’s very existence is still hanging in the balance. This is all a far cry from the position Hardy was in 7 years ago to the month at which time, having returned to WWE following his first stint with TNA in 2006, ‘The Rainbow Haired Warrior’ (as WWE had taken to call him at the time) had risen to the higher end of the promotion following a lengthy on and off programme with Triple H. By Armageddon 2008, Hardy was poised for a triple threat match against ‘The Game’ and long term nemesis, Edge in a match that many were hoping would see Hardy take the final step to the summit, and win the WWE Title.
